Poetry Film Competition Filmfreeway
Drumshanbo County Leitrim, Ireland, hosts an annual literary festival bringing together some of Irelands finest writers and poets to celebrate the written word. As part of this we host an annual Poetry Film competition open to filmmakers and poets from everywhere.
On the evening of Friday August 22nd, at the gorgeus Methodist Church, we screen the shortlisted films as part of the festivals opening ceremony.
In 2025 we have a new curator for the festival. We’re pleased and proud that Scottish film maker Steve Smart is adjudicating this year’s entries.
Poet and visual artist living in a rural part of the east of Scotland. His creative interests are eclectic and he has collaborated with artists, performers and researchers across a wide range of fields. Steve trained in both science and in art, and scientific research is often a source of inspiration, as is sculptural form in landscape and the natural world. Walking forms a key stimulus for much of his work. He was the technical lead on the Poems for Doctors project. He is a member of Consilience Magazine creative team. He collaborates on poetryfilms with poet Rebecca Sharp, among others. His films have been shown at StAnzas in St Andrews, REEL Poetry Houston, Zebra Berlin, O’Bhéal Cork and many more.
